I do like the table-tops. But not much past 2nd edition ADnD. WotC effed up the system if you ask me.
Been playing 2nd edition for years.
Fallout-esque campaign definitely sounds interesting, however.

Tabletop RPGs are awesome. They have gone out of popularity because they require people to have actual social skills and creativity, unlike all the
socalled "RPG" video games out there. It's hard to find anyone willing to exercise those skills anymore.
If you want a Fallout setting, there isn't any need to go reinvent the wheel. There are several systems out there specifically designed for the post
apocalypse setting that would be a lot better suited for it than the DnD system would. DnD is really for playing DnD and there are a lot better
systems than it out there. It isn't even near the best fantasy RPG system IMO, just the most popular which isn't the same thing at all. Just check
a decent game shop and a lot will still be available.
Two games I'd recommend would be "The Morrow Project" and "Paranoia". TMP is a great setting for people setting out from something like a vault
while Paranoia is a hilarious game about living in a Vault run by an insane computer. It depends on whether you want to run a serious or funny
campaign.

And then there's also the classic "Gamma World" from TSR. The
first edition was released in 1978, and used a custom system. The 2010 seventh edition uses the d20 system. Or so sayeth wikipedia.
I'm actually in a game currently with some friends, using the "Wheel
of Time" RPG source book. Mostly based on d20, but with a few tweaks to fit the setting. For one, there are no "races." All characters are
human (except the Ogier) and instead you pick a "background," choosing which country your character is from. The magic system was also modified, and
is still horribly over-powered in combat. At least, that's what the GM said after our two casters rained fiery death down upon a horde of 50 Trolloc
beastmen. Their leader was the only one to survive the initial salvo.

I play some 3rd edition D&D, run a couple campaigns in 2nd edition D6 Star Wars. I really enjoyed 2nd edition D&D, most of the new D20 systems
bother the crap out of me though.
Used to do paranoia forever ago, i think all the source books are common license now, aren't they?

Of course, the really scary game?
I heard someone decided to mix "Paranoia" with "Call of Cthulhu."

That would be a cool endgame. Half your clones would be dead and the other half driven completely insane. Cool, I like it!

I've played a few games; none of them ever got very far though.
Now I wish I lived in Utah so I could join.

We actually just got a new member for our role playing group so I might actually be able to play on a regular basis. There need to be at least 3
players and a GM/DM for decent sessions in my opinion.

I prefer to have 4 myself. 2 in the party is a little watered down for my taste. 3 works out fairly well.

I play a significant amount of DnD (3, 3.5, and some aspects of 4e). I started with table top but as my parties schedules changed it got hard to get a
consistent group together. It got to the point that I was forced to give up on table top and to turn to DnD online, eberron unlimited. It doesn't
come near table top in terms of the classic DnD party, but makes solo play possible and combat takes at least a little skill in it. For those of you
who have played before, whats your favorite class?

Of DnD I've only played 2, but I defiantly like playing a rogue/thief. The extra skill points are very useful and I just love sneaking around and
getting lots of back-stab bonuses.

I agree, rogue is definitely one of my favorites. Sometimes, for kicks and giggles. I play Bard and have plenty of fun making my enemies dance
themselves to death!

I've played a great many of them... over a very long time.
There is no 'scary' system. Scary is matter of game play.
I've layed creep DnD games and boring CotC games.
The best system to my mind is savage worlds. Simple, elegant, empowers the players and customizations are a snap. It's a great 'framework' to put
around your game.
As an Old Time RPGer, it took me a few section to realize how empowering it is when talking about doing what your character does.
As for DnD, I enjoy it, and I Love 4e. With 4e the managed to catch the feel of Advanced DnD with a very fun and interesting combat rules. I don't
think the system works for anything outside of Fantasy Adventuring.
If someone was asking for a system to start, I would suggest getting the 20 dollar savage worlds guide.
As for the number of players, it depends. If you want a weekly DnD sandbox game, then 3-6.
I ahve ran 1 person, all the way to 12.
For more information, I suggest the 'Feartheboot' podcast. Good quality, and the talk about a variety of opinions on each subject.

Wow, it's nice to see that I am not the only one!
Any way, I'll have to give those games a try next time I get some cash.
My favorite class right now is the Warlord, although the rogue is quite awesome. I wish I lived in a larger area so that I could find more quality
people to game with.
So far there really hasn't been a online version of any table top game that I have liked, although I am looking forward to trying google wave to run
something online.

FYI: the 'main' book for savage worlds is 10 bucks.
http://www.amazon.com/Savage-Worlds-Explorers-S2P10010-Staff/dp/0979245567/re...
Should also be 10 bucks at your local game store..which you should support if reasonable.

Haven't had any opportunity to play any tabletop in some years. Don't have enough friends of common interests who live nearby. Enjoyed playing
some DnD in the past, Rolemaster, Spacemaster, Merp and Paranoia.
My opinion on tabletop RPGs is that they can be great fun, but it's all about the people. First off a good DM makes or breaks the game. And if you
don't have a good group to play then it won't be much fun.

That's absolutly true Kronis. In my opinion it's critical to have a group agreement. What does everyone expect from the game? Hack n slash, story
driven, etc . . .

Ok so the campaign is officially underway, and so far so good. Right now, the pc's are watching as the world quickly withers away. They were in a
Slip (a airship basically) crash that left them stranded in the middle of nowhere, and are now trying to save the life of a badly burned elf named
Varis by acquiring three components to a elven cures all. They have slain a Gorsimore Stag, and acquired a Harvest Owl feather, but now face their
toughest challenge so far, sneaking into orc infested lands and gathering a drop of water from the Pure Springs.
What perils will they face? What challenges will they overcome!? Can they survive? Stay tuned!

The adventurers crossed the grey river into Ogrunt orc territory, and were almost immediately set upon by Orcs riding upon Warhogs (giant horse sized
warthogs) they were outmanuevered and put to sleep waiting certain death for sacrifice. Were it not for a strange last minute decision by Tumba, the
orcen cheiftain, they would have surely been slain.
Tumba noticed something on the Seeker's (Quinn's) shoulder, touched his own and changed his mind.
In any case fate had given them the opportunity for a few more days to live. They used that time to mount an escape effort, which was made much
easier thanks to the negligence of their captors. They had to solve the puzzle of the King's Shields, and escaped.
During that time, the Warlock (Eezo) died in battle (monster crit), and was offed a deal from a fell creature. Upon his return to the land of the
living, Eezo ended the lives of 3 innocents, a Goblin, a Human and worst of all a child. But, desperation, fear and apathy kept the others from
inflicting punishment upon him. After all, survival makes for strange bedfellows.
Now freed, the adventurers continue their quest to save the burned elve's life. But several questions nag at them. Was it really negligence that
allowed them to escape? Why was there no guards near their get away boat? Was it help from some other source? Who, and more importantly, why?
All these answers and several new burning questions await, next time on DND update!

I beg to differ. Ever heard of F.A.T.A.L.? If not, here's a review:
