Adventures with hammer

I've recently taken upon myself the wonderful world of mapping, I've been playing around with hammer today, and I've finally made these two tiny rooms with a room in the center. This is the first map I've made and practices very basic model placement and lighting. The first thing that I noticed was, I'm guessing, shaders? or whatever makes a surface reflective was purple checkered, the screenshot shows the blackboard, but I also notice the shinyness of bullet shells and my alien hat also have the same problems.
Screenie:

haha yeah, the scout icon and the scout model are messed, I used to use the female scout but I got sick of her lol.

The link for the map is ->here<- if anyone wants to tell me any technical improvements I should keep in mind. Obviously, this isn't a playable map unless you like sheer chaos :tard:

I'm really enjoying the hammer tool, it's pretty easy to work with. I'm hoping to later create an epically huge 2fort with CTF and Koth gametypes. maybe even a payload inspired by 2fort. If there's any other maps you'd like changed up a bit, lemme know.

I suggest you poke around http://forums.tf2maps.net/forumdisplay.php?f=57 a bit, and definitely read http://forums.tf2maps.net/showthread.php?t=3050. It's got a bunch of good tutorials, and the people are generally helpful. Just keep in mind that almost all good mappers are self taught, and so many aren't very good at explaining well.

If you want to see what mapping I've done, it's right here: http://www.mediafire.com/?6lt5akcnvzfz54f

Well, it still needs a lot of playtesting and detailing. Plus, I can't find the vmf file... >.>

Haha Yes, I don't have screenshots right now, just for the fact that I dont feel like uploading them to photobucket, but I will be making a new koth map soon. What are your thoughts on night time maps? I havent quite figured out weather effects yet, I know how to put in rain, but stormy clouds are still a mystery to me.
